This position is a Competitive Civil Service Position and requires the applicant to be either:

  1. Reachable on an existing Dutchess County Human Resources Certification of Eligibles list; or,
  2. Currently working in, or previously held a Custodian civil service title; or,
  3. Other candidates who have equivalent education and licensing are encouraged to apply and will be considered as allowed per Civil Service regulations.  This applicant would be required to take the Civil Service Custodian exam when offered and be reachable from the eligible list.

Arlington Central School District is currently recruiting for a Custodian (1st shift) with full benefits.  This position is responsible for the efficient and economical cleaning and maintenance of a building on an assigned shift.  The interested applicant must have the ability to supervise the work of others.  Must also have knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment sufficient to lead and participate in the cleaning of large-sized institutional buildings.

Typical Work Activities:

  • Supervise and participate in all building cleaning activities;
  • Assign tasks, give instructions on the use of building cleaning supplies, materials and equipment and checks to see that assignments are carried out;
  • Perform a variety of semi-skilled carpentry, plumbing, electrical and other building maintenance tasks;
  • Check to ensure that buildings are heated, cleaned, locked and in readiness for all activities; and
  • Related work as required.

Hourly Automotive Mechanic (Maintenance)CSEA Hrly Auto Mech (Facil) 9-3-2025

Arlington Central School District is currently recruiting for an Hourly Automotive Mechanic for its Maintenance Department.   This position involves skilled work involving responsibility for the efficient and safe performance of a variety of automotive repair and machinist tasks requiring a good knowledge of the trade.  The hours are from 8am-12pm, Monday-Friday.

Must have good knowledge of the tools, principles and practices of the automotive and construction equipment mechanic trade; working knowledge of common welding techniques; working knowledge of safety practices and OSHA standards for the trade; demonstrated ability to work from plans and specification.

Typical work may include but is not limited to the following:

  • Performs skilled repairs on gasoline and diesel motor equipment for the Maintenance department including vehicles and small engine repair;
  • Runs computerized diagnostic tests on vehicles and compares results with specifications for vehicle to make to determine servicing and repair needs;
  • Performs and directs routine preventive maintenance servicing and inspections;
  • Assembles and times engines;
  • Repairs or overhauls brake systems, differentials, transmissions, front and rear axles and clutches;
  • Adjusts steering mechanisms and aligns wheels;
  • Inspects, repairs and replaces automotive electrical system components;
  • Participates in snow and ice control activities;
  • Related work as required.

The Arlington Central School District is seeking substitute teaching assistants for the 2024/2025 school year.  Interviews will occur on a monthly basis, most likely commencing in September 2025.  The starting rate of pay for a Substitute Teaching Assistant is $16.22/hour.  Current NYS Teaching Assistant Certification preferred, must have a high school diploma or GED.  Fingerprint clearance will be required if hired.

The Arlington Central School District is seeking qualified candidates for per diem substitute teaching positions for the 2025/2026 school year.  Interviews will occur on a monthly basis.  The starting rate of pay for a Certified Substitute Teacher is $132/day and for a Non-Certified Substitute Teacher it is $116/day with the opportunity for a bonus to be paid in July 2026 (see details below).

Certified Teacher

  • Substitute for at least 50 days = $500 bonus, or;
  • Substitute for at least 75 days = $750 bonus, or;
  • Substitute for at least 100 days = $1,000 bonus

Non-Certified Teacher

  • Substitute for at least 50 days = $500 bonus, or;
  • Substitute for at least 75 days = $750 bonus
