Job Description

Arlington Central School District is currently recruiting for a Supervisor of Special Education working District Wide effective approximately 9/23/2026.

 

Performance Responsibilities:

 

The Supervisor of Special Education manages the complex task of supporting our youngest community members as they transition from Early Intervention to the Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE), and onward to Kindergarten.  The supervisor may also support school-aged students as needed.

 

This full-time leadership role drives the District’s goal of expanding capacity for inclusive and integrated experiences for our students with disabilities.  Additionally, the Supervisor provides essential support our growing Universal Pre-K (UPK) programs.

 

Specifically, the candidate requires a depth of understanding and knowledge related to IDEA and disability services with a background in leadership, integrated programs, disability services and special education.  The candidate must also have excellent communication, coordination, and collaboration skills with peers, families, county health departments, and local service providers to best meet the needs of our students.

 

Supervisor of Special Education duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

                                                                       

  • Serve as a Chairperson of the CSE and CPSE as applicable
  • Maintain knowledge of current Federal and State laws, regulations, and mandates regarding special education
  • Provide information to the Director and/or Assistant Superintendent to ensure District compliance with the required NYS reporting systems for special education, including but not limited to STAC, IHO, Medicaid, and ESY
  • Insure conformance and integrity of District IEPs with federal and state timelines, quality, and procedural requirements
  • Coordinate with NYSED-approved preschool evaluation sites to secure independent multi-disciplinary evaluations.
  • Work with members of the CSE, CPSE and Subcommittees of the CSE regarding collaboration, process, and practices
  • Designate responsibility to ensure that all regular and special education teachers, related service providers, and support staff are fully informed of their specific accommodations and program responsibilities under the law
  • Facilitate transitions from Early Intervention (DOH) to CPSE (NYSED) and from CPSE to Kindergarten
  • Oversight of specialized preschool placements, including Special Education Itinerant Services (SEIS), Special Class in an Integrated Setting (SCIS), and half/full-day special classes
  • Work with all parties to resolve special education issues and disputes
  • Adhere to Board policies and District Code of Conduct
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education and/or the Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel Services
Job Qualifications
  • Possesses New York State Certification for School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL)
  • Demonstrates skills in human relations, communications, problem solving and organization
