Job Description

This position is a Competitive Civil Service Position and requires the applicant to be either:

1. Currently working in, or previously held a Custodian civil service title; or,
2. Other candidates who have equivalent education and licensing are encouraged to apply and will be considered as allowed per Civil Service regulations.  This applicant would be required to take the Civil Service Custodian exam when offered and be reachable from the eligible list.

Arlington Central School District is currently recruiting for a Custodian (1st shift) with full benefits starting approximately June 15th.  This position is responsible for the efficient and economical cleaning and maintenance of a building on an assigned shift.  The interested applicant must have the ability to supervise the work of others.  Must also have knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment sufficient to lead and participate in the cleaning of large-sized institutional buildings.

Typical Work Activities:

• Supervise and participate in all building cleaning activities;
• Assign tasks, give instructions on the use of building cleaning supplies, materials and equipment and checks to see that assignments are carried out;
• Perform a variety of semi-skilled carpentry, plumbing, electrical and other building maintenance tasks;
• Check to ensure that buildings are heated, cleaned, locked and in readiness for all activities; and
• Related work as required.

Job Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

• One year of full-time paid work experience primarily involving institutional or commercial building cleaning and which included minor maintenance experience.
