Job Description

This position is a Competitive Civil Service Position and requires the applicant to be:

  1. Reachable on an existing Dutchess County Human Resources Certification of Eligible List; or,
  2. Currently working in, or previously held an Assistant to School Food Service Director civil service title; or,
  3. Other candidates who have equivalent education and licensing are encouraged to apply and will be considered as allowed per Civil Service regulations.

Arlington Central School District is currently recruiting for an Assistant to School Food Service Director.  This is a 12-month position with full benefits.  Interested applicants must have a thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of nutrition and their application to the health of children; good knowledge of all phases of a school food service program, knowledge of the principles and practices of large quantity food preparation, menu planning, purchasing, and equipment selection and care.  

Some typical work activities are:

  • Assists with bid preparation for the purchase of food supplies;
  • Assists with menu planning;
  • Assists in interviewing, selection and training personnel;
  • Receives, stores and distributes school lunch supplies and maintains inventory-related records;
  • Related work as required

Job Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Either:

  1. Associate degree in food service, nutrition, dietetics, or institution management or closely related; OR:
  2. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two (2) years of experience in large quantity food service; OR:
  3. Equivalent combination of training, education, and experience as indicated in (A) and (B) above.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: At least 10 hours of annual continuing education/training.

    NOTE: Your degree or college credit must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national or specialized agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education.
