Job Description

Arlington Central School District is currently recruiting for a Head Bus Driver.  This is a supervisory position involving the responsibility for the efficient and safe operation of a school bus fleet, including assigning routes, scheduling bus drivers and occasional bus driving.  The interested applicant must have a good knowledge of school transportation systems, the operation of buses, a working knowledge of standard automtoive repair as well as clerical ability.  The ideal candidate will be able to communicate effectively and clearly with employees and the general public as well as the ability to maintain records.  Other job duties may include:

• Assisting in the development of bus routes;
• Assigning buses and drivers on regularly established routes as well as making sure there is a bus driver for every route;
• Directs maintenance work of bus drivers;
• Instructs bus drivers in appropriate action to take in emergencies, conferring with supervisor in more unusual or difficult situations;
• Works with school principals and bus drivers to maintain consistent and appropriate bus safety practices;
• May drive school bus and make special trips as required;
• Does related work as required.

Job Qualifications

Minimum Qualificaitons:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Two (2) years of experience as a bus driver; or,
• Two years of experience in the operation, repair, dispatching, scheduling, or related work involving automotive equipment or transportation systems; or,
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

 

Additional:

• obtaining or having DMV 19A certification or SBDI Instructor certification is preferred.
